Nothing like it

The feeling you get, when one pulls out of the ground something you have grown all by your loansome, well the wellies are lost for words! Satisfaction just does not cut it somehow. The accompaning picture shows my thinnings from today, which will be our dinner later accompanied by the cabbage picked earlier, with a very nice chicken steamed with fresh (homegrown) thyme, rosemary, garlic, cherry toms (not homegrown) and a little vegetable stock (homemade). Hope your are drooling!!!!

Them 'Bl***dy Foxes

My greencone has been a successful addition to my plot, breaking down all that waste you cannot otherwise place in a normal compost bin. It likes anything, cooked, meat scraps, bones etc. Which is wonderful. My bin at home no longer smells, and I now only put out half a bag of rubbish a week, which is lovely. However 'them there foxes are trying to dig it up'!!. I have recovered it on a daily basis for a week, but now I have resorted to logs. The wellies are revolting against the red tirants, and we are now trying to outwit on the strategic front. Watch this space!!

'Me Arbour'

Spent the afternoon, building me arbour, hopefully by next year it will be covered by rose's, passion flower and honeysuckle. Nice to sit under looking down at the sea, inhaling sweet smelling blosom. Just hope it stands up the howling winds up from the sea. Hopefully it will fare better than the greenhouse did during the winter. It has been christened with a brew and cheese & pickle sandwich.

Upside down Tom's & Cucumbers

In answer to those who wish to know, here is my version of the upside down tomato planter. It has a thick piece of cardboard cut out like a collar, that went round the base of the stem so when it was turned upside down and placed through the cut out plant pot, it stops the soil falling out. Plants have doubled in size since taking this first pictures.

LUCKY SPOT

A View to the sea, very lucky to have this spot, only downside pretty fierce winds.
I'm gonna have to do a rain dance though to save my elbows, I'm sure I have tennis elbow with all the watering.
NO RAIN FOR OVER SEVEN WEEKS NOW!!! GLOBAL WARMING HERE WE COME!

"The Green Man"

It's May the Ist, and some daft bugger (me) decided to drag giraffe wellies, kissy wellies and clan, at 4.30 am to the top of the West Hill in Hastings to watch and dance the sun up over the East Hill, which has been captured as you can see, all in the name of paeganism & the green man (I think), but decided it wasnt a bad idea might bring an abundant crop this year. Have great plans for preserving, pickling and most important WINE making. But i must admit it was a stunningly beautiful morning, and found the whole thing kind 'a' nice!

'bye heck', havn't things progressed

The area by the corregated iron, was as tall as me in bramble and other various weeds, but have completely cleared to give giraffe wellies a place to call her own, we have sown grass seed and it's starting to emerge. It is her play area, as no garden at home. Trouble is waiting for it to grow is painstaking for the little one.
Ooh and what joy! the asparagus has arrived, all planted with four different varieties. Can't wait
And the joys of the freecycle website, a compost bin (well I think it is) turned in the giraffe wellies strawberry bin, it took nearly five bags of compost, and has 30 plants in it. I can feel strawberry wine coming on.

Ahhhh! Spring is here or is it!!

Spring is here and the seedlings are growing in the greenhouse, but are they going to all go into shock with the pending forecast for SNOW, IN MARCH! what is happening to our weather. In the midst of building a bird bath out of a spare dustbin lid, as you do! a visitor from way over rounder, in the deepest darkest corner of allotment land, came with great tidings, to offer support to the wellies quest and join them in a home brew, but how remiss of me I have not introduced you to our guest wellies, so I humbly present kissy wellies. And I declare the bird bath well and truly open!!

What Lurks Beneath those Tunnels!!

Hello everybody and welcome back to the exciting adventures of red and giraffe wellies Ooh look! what can be lying under those cloches. Surprise!!! soon to be an asparagus bed, a one and a half foot trench lovingly prepared to house the one year old crowns arriving in April, but the only downside is that the wellies are going to have to wait TWO YEARS! before they get any. Asparagus that is! BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

Ooh joy look what has recovered, The greenhouse fairy would be proud, new apparently stone proof, storm proof, polycarbonate, twin skinned for extra insulation, the wellies are tempted to move in permanently.

Ooh woe! is the Greenhouse!!!

Poor poor greenhouse, the heavy duty winds, became the demise of my pride and joy (as the thing was put up singled handed I'll have you know), alas due to the temporary measure's undertaken and errected by redwellies and giraffe wellies, the fantastic 80mph winds whipped through and squished it!!!. (unfortunately did not take a photo of its mangledness, as redwellies and giraffe wellies were distraught), but basically 3/4 of the glass was lost, the roof scattered around the allotment, from a distance the wellies though all was lost, but on closer insepction the frame was still good and not at all buckled which was the first thought, but a photo was taken of the greenhouse without its glass and the roof re-errected. THE WELLIES WILL NOT BE BEATEN!!!!!!

The plot is taking shape

Edging boards have been placed, the beginnings of an asparagus bed, (from crowns this year as the seeds didnt germinate last year), a cold frame built, all I can say is "is there nothing these wellies cannot do".

Tuesday 6 March 2007

The plot is being cleared, of the most enormous blackberry bushes you have ever seen, the wellies are suffering from attack of the thorns Look! can it be Tracey the Greenhouse fairy, has she come to the rescue of the wellies, but wait! look! can it be true
A GREENHOUSE!!!.... Ooh! what joy, the downtrodden wellies jump for joy, the seedlings will be watered, nurtured and warm once again, red and giraffe wellies give thanks to Tracey the Greenhouse fairy as she has truely relieved the suffering of ones so young...

A Steady Improvement

Indecision as to the lay out of beds, a vision is lacking red and giraffe wellies are in need of inspiration and a greenhouse! If only the greenhouse fairy will come to the rescue and provide shelter for those poor little, lonely and very chilly seedlings.
Redwellies and giraffe wellies both decide to clear a plot for a greenhouse, just in case the greenhouse fairy grants their wish
March 2006

Let me introduce you!

Let me present wellies & co, the first being redwellies and the last being and by no means least the astounding and champion digging giraffe wellies.

From humble beginnnings

From humble beginnings, first season of the 2nd plot, the whole of this area was grass. Cleared as much as possible as the plot was taken over late in the growing season, but made most of time available. May 2005
